Indian Supreme Court recommends a 10 year moratorium on all field trials of GM crops

The Indian Supreme Court has recommended a 10 year moratorium on all field trials of GM food crops which are directly used for human consumption.

NGO Greenpeace specified that the moratorium was necessitated by the potential harm of GM crops to human health, that of livestock and biodiversity and the possibility of field trials to contaminate regular crops and food supply.

Governments across the world have expressed concern with regard to GM crops especially after the recent release of the 2012 French Study which showed the detrimental long term, chronic and harmful side effects after ingesting GM crops.
