On the 2nd of January 2013, supporters of a petition with 6700 signaturers that supported a ban on genetically-modified crops packed the Jackson County courthouse auditorium.

As the FDA refuses to participate in labelling GMO products, individual counties have taken matters into their own hands, and Jackson county is the latest GMO free initiative of fed up consumers and organic farmers who don’t want their crop contaminated with GMO crop.
After addressing commissioners, members of GMO-Free Jackson County then marched to the nearby Elections Office to file the signatures officially, with several holding up signs in support of the ban. They hope to get a ballot measure banning the crops in Jackson County on the May 2014 ballot.
