Lawsuit filed against Hawaii challenging the Genetically Modified Bill

On Monday, the 9th of June 2014, a lawsuit was filed in the U.S. Circuit Court of challenging ’s ban on citing that there is no scientific evidence to uphold the ban which was based on the precautionary principle. The county passed Bill 113 last year prohibiting genetically engineered with the exception of existing such as papayas.

The bill specifies: “The of open air cultivation, propagation, development or testing of genetically engineered and is intended to prevent the transfer and uncontrolled spread of genetically engineered organisms on to private property, public lands and waterways.” The complaint can be viewed below.
