Luxembourg labels food products as GMO free.


Luxembourg’s agricultural minister has released a statement affirming the country’s commitment to the anti-gmo process and detailing Luxembourg’s policy to protect biodiversity, agriculture and consumer .

The minister expressed the country’s firm precautionary GMO principle policy as the only two GMOs ( MON810 maize and potato ) authorized for cultivation in the are prohibited in Luxembourg. At European level Luxembourg was at the heart of the coalition of Member States who opposed new GMO in the and pledged to an evaluation system taking into consideration the long-term effects of GMOs on the environment and consumer .

The government has finalized labeling regulations for , meat and eggs and the first products with a “Reared without GMOs” label are already on sale in Luxembourg.
