The Seattle city council has unanimously voted to prohibit the use of neonicotinoid pesticides on land owned or maintained by the city, making it the largest city to enact a ban without federal regulations.

The ordinance titled resolution 31548 bans the purchase and use of neonicotinoids on city-owned property and calls for a on the use of the toxic pesticides, urging the White House Task Force, U.S. , and Congress to suspend the registration of neonicotinoids.

The city follows in the heels of Skagway, Alaska, Eugene, Oregon, Spokane and Washington that have implemented a ban.

A grassroots , supporting the ban, was led by Central Co-op and the Settle Sierra Club collected 4,300 and was supported by 24 organization.
