The “ew” factor returns to school lunches. Pink Slime makes a comeback.
Pink slime is returning back to school. The ground beef filler used in a variety of products causes a controversy last year as the public was exposed to ammonia treated beef known by the industry as textured beef.
Thousands of school across the country stampeded last year to sop feeding their students meat containing pink slime after a massive public outcry.
Apparently though some school districts have waited for the hoopla to subside in order to resurrect pink slime and resumed buying the controversial product.
Data from the USDA specifies that as of Sept. 3, seven states put in orders to the USDA for about 2 million pounds of beef that may contain the controversial product for the meals they serve in the 2013-14 school year.
