A group of researchers at the University of Mississippi poked fun at the research they conducted involving the infamous chicken nugget. The team released their findings in a paper titled: “The Autopsy of Chicken Nuggets Reads ‘Chicken Little”, which was published in the American Journal of Medicine.
It turns out that the nugget contains a large percentage of “mystery” meat, with less than 50% white meat. The rest consisted of a mix of fat, blood vessels, nerves, cartilage and pieces of bone.
American consumers went on the rampage when the contents of pink slime in ground beef were revealed. It is expected that they will greet the news of the chicken nugget mystery meat with the same disgust.
The researchers point out that they only tested the ingredients of two brands of chicken nuggets and no doubt chain food restaurants will proclaim that their nugget product contains 100% white meat; however, consumers concerned about their food choices will no doubt wonder what they exactly are eating.
