The White House has released its recommendations that have been pending since 2014. The economic benefit of pollinators is estimated to be approximately $15 billion in value to agricultural crops each year. The task force was implemented to investigate the tremendous decline of pollinators including the Monarch butterfly population which has decreased by 90% over the last few years.
The strategic plan released by the task force addressed several key points, none of which are relevant to addressing the pollinator decline. The agency recommendations highlights the collaboration with 12 federal agencies and 300 stakeholders and do not represent the all hands on deck approach that President Obama is calling for.
Instead of addressing the systematic use of pesticides and the impact on colonies, the analysis fails to address the reason behind the pollinator decline, instead providing more work for additional federal agencies. Prevailing research has already addressed the reason behind the declining pollinator population. A list of task force recommendations has been included below, which highlights the role of inter-agency collaborations and the assigned differential role.
