Russia orders proposals to ban GMOS.

russia2Russia is considering a ban on the of genetically modified products. The Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, has instructed Russia’s regulatory agencies to consider a possible ban by October 15.

The directive is addressed to Rospotrebnadzor, the Health Ministry, the Agriculture Ministry, and the Trade and Economic Development Ministry, who have been ordered to prepare and submit proposals on amendments to the Russian legislation aimed at tightening control on the of GMOs and the their possible ban into the Russian Federation.

Russia is following in the foot steps of other countries concerned with the of GMOs and has implemented an internal project to identify whether Russian farmers are growing unregistered GM crops in the Russian Federation.
